As we become more technologically advanced, we find different ways of delivering service to our patients. This includes telehealth, or the distribution of health-related services and information via electronic information and telecommunication technologies. Telehealth in audiology has many applications. It can be used for tinnitus consultations, hearing aid fitting, programming, adjustments, and troubleshooting, counseling and follow-up care. This can be performed via several avenues such as phone call, video call, text or email, and may or may not occur in real-time. There are several benefits to teleaudiology. It can be particularly useful for individuals that cannot make it into the office due to illness, weather, lack of transportation or mobility, or physical location. Teleaudiology improves access to care without sacrificing quality of care. This is essential as the fields of healthcare and technology continue to evolve.
