Caption phones are phones that provide large, easy to read text of what a caller is saying. Many of these devices also provide increased amplification so you can hear at a louder, more comfortable volume. Users can listen and read captions at the same time so that none of the conversation is missed. The phone will also caption messages or voicemails if you are not home to answer when the phone rings. These phones are beneficial to individuals with hearing loss who have difficulty understanding a speaker on a landline phone. Caption phones work like any regular phone; a call is made or received as it normally would be. Bluetooth connected caption phones are also available as well. These may provide streaming from your landline into your hearing aids with an additional accessory. Several of these devices are free to individuals with hearing loss as long as you have an internet connection. If you don’t have the internet, don’t worry! There are other options available that you may qualify for. If you or your loved ones have difficulty carrying on or interpreting a conversation on the phone, talk to your audiologist about how a caption phone may help.
